SATURN NEVER SLEEPS

Once again, it’s your humble nocturnalist-journalist, reporting live from the Loft. It’s only right we present to you fellow night lurkers, Saturn Never Sleeps (King Britt & Rucyl), arriving up from Philly to provide our score for another restless night. Along to set the table for tonight’s affair, we also have DJ Tara, as well as extended Loft fam, Fresh Daily, Jasmine Solano and The Stuyvesants back for another soundscaping. This time they’re treating us to some tracks from their latest sophomore effort, a double LP of beats called The Finer Things. The head-nodding has commenced, so please join us, if you will, for another episode…

Following in the tradition of a long lineage of Philadelphia sound-proprietors, and each with considerable measures of individual contributions to the city and abroad, King Britt & Rucyl began collaborating as Saturn Never Sleeps in 2009. What began as a series of experimental, electronic improvisational performances and parties has since grown into a catalog of sounds ripe with influences from the psych-jazz of Sun Ra to early dub-dancehall and beyond. Tonight, for our listening pleasure, SNS shares the electro-future sounds of their debut offering Yesterday’s Machine, along with a number of organically grown exclusive gems. The two work in tandem, computing fleshed out soundwaves over Rucyl’s breathy vocals, all coming together for a celestial experience.

Once we descend from the heavens, back to our earthly bearings, it’s time for longtime Loft conspirator DJ Jasmine Solano to get active on the wheels. The business of interviewing Saturn Never Sleeps has been taken care of prior to the show, so all that’s left to do is party up…and that’s exactly what we’re doing. More drinks to pour, more portraits to be shot, more familiar faces to greet, and more new friends to make. It’s been a good one. This is Live At The Loft…
